Dinesh Chandra Shaha is a Professor in the Department of Fisheries Management at Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU), Gazipur, Bangladesh, where he has been serving since December 2011. He previously worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Research Institute of Oceanography, Seoul National University, from April 2015 to March 2017. Before joining GAU, he was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Marine Fisheries and Oceanography at Patuakhali Science and Technology University, Bangladesh. He earned his Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography from Chonnam National University in February 2011, and completed both his B.S. (2002) and M.S. (2004) degrees at Bangladesh Agricultural University. From 2004 to 2006, he also worked at the Department of Fisheries in Dhaka, Bangladesh.<\/p>\n

Dr. Shaha is a distinguished researcher in fisheries science, aquatic ecology, and oceanography. His research primarily focuses on estuarine and coastal ecosystems, nutrient cycling, biodiversity, plankton communities, salinity intrusion, and impacts of climate change. Emphasis is placed on linking hydrodynamics with ecological processes to support sustainable management, conservation, and resilience of aquatic ecosystems.<\/p>\n

Dr. Shaha has made significant contributions to understanding estuarine dynamics, including salt plug formation, flushing time, and sediment\u2013water interactions. His work integrates field observations with advanced numerical modeling approaches to examine complex processes such as estuary\u2013ocean exchange, vertical mixing, and stratification. His studies on the Meghna and Pasur River estuaries have provided valuable insights into fish diversity, phytoplankton composition, and the ecological impacts of salinity gradients.<\/p>\n

In the field of aquatic ecology, his research has explored nutrient stoichiometry, phytoplankton dynamics, and the role of primary producers in supporting fisheries, including hilsa (Tenualosa ilisha<\/em>). He has also investigated environmental challenges such as heavy metal contamination, hypoxia, and microbial pollution in sediments, water bodies, and aquaculture systems. These studies highlight both ecological risks and human health concerns in coastal and wetland environments.<\/p>\n

With numerous publications in high-impact international and national journals, Dr. Shaha has collaborated widely with researchers across the globe. His interdisciplinary approach, combining ecology, oceanography, and aquaculture, has significantly advanced scientific understanding and resource management of aquatic ecosystems in Bangladesh and beyond.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
