Dr. Md. Monjurul Islam<\/strong> is a Professor and founder Head of the Department of Rural Development<\/strong> at Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU)<\/strong>, Gazipur, Bangladesh. He is also working as a Dean in the Faculty of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development and the honorable Syndicate member of GAU from 2025. He was awarded a PhD. in 2018<\/strong> from the University of Tsukuba<\/strong>, Tsukuba, Japan. Earlier in his academic career, he earned a B.Sc. in Agricultural Economics (Hons.) with First Class<\/strong> in 2004 and secured First Class First Position<\/strong> in his MS in Rural Sociology<\/strong> from Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU)<\/strong>, Mymensingh, in 2007.<\/p>\n

Dr. Islam holds the distinction of being the founding Professor<\/strong> of the Department of Rural Development at GAU. Since 2018, he has been serving as the department head and has also taken on key roles such as Associate Director of International Affairs<\/strong> and the Outreach Program<\/strong> at GAU. His academic and administrative career is marked by excellence, leadership, and innovation.<\/p>\n

Before joining GAU, Dr. Islam began his teaching career as a Lecturer<\/strong> in the Department of Agricultural and Rural Development at Sylhet Agricultural University (SAU)<\/strong> in 2008. He was promoted to Assistant Professor<\/strong> in 2010 and went on to lead the department as Chairman<\/strong>, where he was instrumental in launching undergraduate and MS programs. He also served as an Assistant Proctor<\/strong> at SAU, contributing to the university\u2019s disciplinary and administrative functions.<\/p>\n

Beyond academia, Dr. Islam has been actively involved in various social and volunteer organizations, including the Rover Scouts<\/strong>, Lecturer and Assistant Professors Society (LAPS)<\/strong>, and the Teachers’ Association<\/strong> at SAU.<\/p>\n

He is a life member of several professional organizations, including the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB)<\/strong>, Bangladesh Economics Association (BEA)<\/strong>, Bangladesh Agricultural Economics Association (BAEA)<\/strong>, Bangladesh Association for the Advancement of Science (BAAS)<\/strong>, the Japanese Universities Alumni Association in Bangladesh (JUAAB)<\/strong>, and the Australian Agricultural and Resource Economics Society (AARES) <\/strong>and so on.<\/p>\n

Dr. Md. Monjurul Islam’s career reflects a strong commitment to education, research, and leadership in rural development, earning him respect both nationally and internationally.<\/p>\n
