Dr. Md. Shahanoor Alam is a Professor in the Department of Genetics and Fish Breeding at Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU), Bangladesh, and serves as a full-time faculty member. He began his academic career on 6th April 2011 as a Lecturer in the same department and has since been actively engaged in teaching and research.

He obtained his B.Sc. (Hons.) in Fisheries and M.S. in Biotechnology from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Bangladesh. He was awarded the prestigious MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan) scholarship to pursue his doctoral studies at Keio University, Japan, where he successfully completed his PhD in Bioscience and Informatics. Additionally, he was a visiting research student at the University of Nebraska, USA.

Dr. Alam’s research expertise lies in fish immunogenetics, molecular fish genetics and gene silencing, with a particular focus on understanding immune responses in fish under environmental stress and disease conditions. His work aims to contribute to the development of disease-resistant strains and promote sustainable aquaculture practices.

He possesses extensive expertise in molecular biology, with a strong focus on gene expression analysis, gene silencing strategies, and chromosome manipulation techniques, including the induction of triploidy and tetraploidy. His skill set encompasses advanced research approaches such as transcriptomics, RNA interference (RNAi), and qPCR-based methodologies. Through the integration of these cutting-edge tools, his research drives innovative advancements in aquaculture, with important implications for environmental sustainability and global food security.
