Dr. Md. Yunus Miah is a Professor of Soil Science at the Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU), Gazipur. Receiving Ph. D. from the University of Tokyo, Japan, he pursued advanced research with NSC fellowship at National Taiwan University. Professor Miah has 26 years of teaching experience accompanied with 11 years of research experience at the University of Tokyo and National Taiwan University, respectively. Additionally he has long research experience in Soil Fertility and Plant Nutrition with a major focus on rhizosphere study aimed at distribution, mobility, uptake and dynamics of plant nutrient, heavy metal and microbial activities as well that led to confirm the range of rhizosphere effect at defined distances conducted by the rhizobox method- a key tool popularly used across globe for sustainable agriculture developed by Professor Miah and Professor Dr. Mitsuo Chino of the University of Tokyo. Jointly Professor Miah and Professor Chino also developed a new simple, economic but quick elemental diagnosis method in vegetative plant parts by applying energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence technique requiring only flat ironing of the freshly collected vegetative plant samples followed by deep washing in deionized distilled water.

Professor Miah has a significant number of papers published home and abroad with impact factor and international reputation as well. He also authored a textbook entitled “Glutinous rice cultivation in coastal soils of Bangladesh” published by Lambert Academic Publishing, Germany, 2012. Even he published several popular articles in different dailies and periodicals. In recognition of his excellent contribution on methodological development of plant nutrition studies vide development of new rhizobox method and rapid elemental diagnosis techniques on vegetative plant parts, he was rewarded as an honorable young reviewer of the Australian Journal of Agricultural Research for 1999-2000. He has also served as a BCS Officer (Ministry of Agriculture), JICA Expert, and Reviewer for the Australian Journal of Agricultural Research.
