SHORT BIO<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Md. Abiar Rahman is an expert in agriculture, multistory agroforestry, homestead, agrometeorology, sustainable agriculture, forest management, and land use design. He is a professor in the Department of Agroforestry and Environment at Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) (formerly BSMRAU) in Bangladesh. He serves as the Country Coordinator of CIFOR-ICRAF, Bangladesh, under the Asia Continent Programme. He joined ICRAF in April 2019, where he is responsible for initiating and leading agroforestry research, as well as coordinating CIFOR-ICRAF\u2019s activities with organizations in Bangladesh. He earned his doctoral degree from Kyushu University, Japan, in 2008 and received his MS degree in Agroforestry Environment in 2001. With over 26 years of experience in Bangladesh and other countries, he has made extensive contributions to research, education, program development, management and coordination, community development, and capacity building. He has supervised approximately 40 postgraduate students and has authored and co-authored more than 90 publications while attending 36 international conferences, seminars, and workshops. He has also implemented several projects funded by various national and international organizations. His research interests include the functions and services of agroecosystems in a changing climate, as well as experience with crop productivity in drought- and saline-prone areas of Bangladesh. He is designing a homestead production system to enhance livelihoods, generate income, improve food security, and boost living conditions. Additionally, he has emphasized the impacts of land use and climate change on ecosystem services and functions in different regions of Bangladesh. He has published two books entitled \u201cDeforestation in the Teknaf Peninsula of Bangladesh: A Study of Political Ecology\u201d and \u201cStatistical Methods of Agricultural Research.\u201d Since April 2019, he has served as the Country Coordinator of CIFOR-ICRAF in Bangladesh.<\/span><\/p>\n
