Prof. Dr. Farhana Yeasmin is a distinguished academic, researcher, and specialist in Agricultural Extension and Rural Development, with more than two decades of experience in university teaching, research, student supervision, and academic engagement. Her professional journey reflects a sustained commitment to understanding the human, environmental, and socio-economic dimensions of agricultural development, with particular emphasis on farmers, rural households, women, and changing agricultural systems.
Her research interests encompass a broad yet interconnected range of contemporary issues, including farmers’ perceptions and attitudes, women’s participation and capacity-building in agriculture, climate change and adaptation, homestead production systems, land-use dynamics, rural livelihoods, food consumption behaviour, and emerging concerns in agricultural production and food safety. Through these areas of inquiry, she seeks to bridge the gap between agricultural knowledge, farmers’ realities, and effective extension interventions.
Prof. Dr. Yeasmin began her professional career as a Scientific Officer in 2006 and subsequently joined Gazipur Agricultural University, where she progressed through the academic ranks of Lecturer, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor in the Department of Agricultural Extension & Rural Development. Her career has been marked by active engagement in teaching, postgraduate supervision, research leadership, and academic development, contributing to the advancement of extension education and rural development scholarship.
She has served as Principal Investigator and Co-Principal Investigator in several university- and UGC-funded research projects. Her research has addressed critical and emerging agricultural challenges, including the impact of climate change on homestead production systems and farmers’ attitudes toward adaptation; land-use change and its underlying drivers; consumer and grower perceptions of hazardous chemical use in fruit ripening; women’s participation and training needs in rice production; and household consumption patterns of pulses, rice, and vegetables.
What distinguishes her research profile is its strong people-centred and problem-oriented approach—connecting farmers’ knowledge, perceptions, behaviour, gender, environmental change, and rural livelihood systems with practical agricultural development. Her work contributes to generating evidence for more responsive extension services, informed agricultural decision-making, sustainable production systems, and inclusive rural development in Bangladesh.
