PLP 340 Diseases of Field Crops<\/strong><\/p>\n

Offering Term: Autumn, For Third Year students<\/strong><\/p>\n

A. Theory<\/strong><\/p>\n

Etiology, symptoms, mode of spread, survival of the pathogen, epidemiology, disease cycle, and management of diseases of different field crops:<\/p>\n

(i)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Diseases of cereals: Rice, wheat, maize, sorghum, barley, millet.<\/p>\n

(ii)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Diseases of fiber crops: Jute, kanaf, mesta, cotton.<\/p>\n

(iii)\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Disease of oilseeds: Mustard, sesame, sunflower, groundnut, soybean.<\/p>\n

(iv)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Diseases of Pulses: Blackgram, mungbean, green gram, peas, lentil, chickpea, cowpea.<\/p>\n

(v)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Diseases of sugar crops: Sugarcane, sugarbeet.<\/p>\n

B. Practical: <\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Collection and preservation of disease specimens<\/li>\n
  2. Study of symptoms and causal agents of the major diseases of rice, wheat, maize, jute, sugarcane, and pulse and oilseeds.<\/li>\n
  3. Visit fields for observation and collection of disease specimens.<\/li>\n
  4. Each student needs to submit a herbarium having at least 50 disease specimens.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
