Abu Nasar Md. Aminoor Rahman serves as a professor in the fields of Reproductive Biology, Biotechnology and Immunology of Livestock, Poultry and Wildlife as well as Biodiversity and Wildlife Conservation within the Department of Gynecology, Obstetrics and Reproductive Health (GOR) in Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU), Bangladesh. He is currently acting as the Head of the Department of GOR. He has held various positions prior to this, including Library Chief (2021–2023), Director of VTH (2019–2021), Director of the Outreach Center (2017–2019), Head of the Department of GOR (2011–2018), and Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine & Animal Science (2011–2013) at GAU. He was also a member of the Syndicate of GAU during 2012–2013.

Professor Rahman obtained Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and MS in Anatomy degrees from Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), achieving First position in the First Class in both instances. He was trained in Wildlife Conservation and Management at the College of Forestry, Dr. Panjabro Deshmukh Khrishi Vidyapeeth, India (2020), as well as in Medicine & Surgery of Small Animals & Birds and Immunobiology at the University of Guelph, Canada (1998). He earned his MVSc in Reproductive Immunology from the University of Melbourne, Australia, on an AusAID scholarship in 2002, and his PhD in Reproductive Biotechnology from the University of Malaya, Malaysia, under an IDB merit scholarship in 2008. His theses for MS, MVSc, and PhD concentrated on the reproductive biology, immunology, and biotechnology of poultry, sheep and goat, respectively. Professor Rahman was instrumental in the establishment of FVMAS at GAU; Reproductive Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Histopathology & Microbiology Labs with the help of World Bank at FVMAS, and the Wildlife Reproduction & Conservation Laboratory at the Department of GOR, FVMAS, GAU.

Professor Rahman has received grants from various sources amounting to a total of 250,000.00 USD up to today. His team’s ongoing studies concentrate on the development of an on-site molecular diagnostic kit and probiotic-based therapeutic product for sustainable management of bovine mastitis under Heat (Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation) project (5.8 crore BDT) funded by World Bank and UGC, Bangladesh. He serves as a panel reviewer for various national and international funding organizations, including the World Bank, KGF, NATP, SPGR, BANBASE, UGC and MoST.

Professor Rahman has authored and co-authored 75 research and review articles in both national and international journals, 21 books and encyclopedias, as well as various scientific communications in national magazines. His work covers a range of subjects including poultry, livestock, pet animals, reproductive biology, immunology & biotechnology, biodiversity and wildlife. Currently, he holds the position of Senior Editor at Nature Digest and serves as one of the Editors for the Journal of Science & Technology Research (JSTR). To this day, he has edited around ten books and magazines, and he has held the position of Associate Editor for the Journal of Agriculture & Rural Development. He serves as a columnist and wildlife photographer for leading national newspapers, having published more than 600 features on subjects including poultry, livestock, pets, biodiversity, birds, wildlife and nature conservation.

Professor Rahman received many awards, prizes and medals for his outstanding academic and research accomplishments in mucosal immunology and embryo biotechnology including Best Oral Presentation Award in 2007 at Sarawak, Malaysia; Graham Jackson Memorial Prize in 2001 at Canberra, Australia; Chancellor’s Gold Medal & University Award from BAU and UGC Merit Scholarship. He became the Most Valuable Person of the Year for Livestock Development in Bangladesh in 2016 by Bangladesh Livestock Society (BLS). He also received Conservation Media Award and Butterfly Media Award from Jahangir Nagar University in 2023, Fellowship Award from Zoological Society of Bangladesh (ZSB) in 2022 and Wild Bird Conservation Award from CVASU in 2016. He presented his research findings in many international conferences/symposia in Australia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Canada, India, Italy, Malaysia, Thailand and UK.

Professor Rahman engages actively in writing, nature photography, and conservation efforts. He holds the position of corporate life member at the Nature Study Society of Bangladesh (NSSB) and is a life member of several professional societies, including ZSB, BLS, BSVER, BAAS, BSM, and OHB. Dr. Aminoor, an eminent bird, wildlife and poultry specialist, served as a member of the National Vulture Recovery Committee and was a peer group specialist for the Status Survey and Development of the Elephant Action Plan for Bangladesh under the Ministry of Forest & Environment, Government of the Peoples’ Republic of Bangladesh.

Professor Rahman has published several notable works, including Butterflies and Dragonflies of Bangladesh, Wildlife of Bangladesh, and Various Birds of Bangladesh in My Eyes (in Bangla). He served as the author, English translator (WBD), and Chief Photographer for these books, leveraging his years of experience as both a wildlife biologist and a wildlife photographer. These books contribute to the preservation of biodiversity and wildlife in Bangladesh.
