Dr. Md. Shamim Hossain was completed his BS (Ag.) and MS (Entomology) degree from Gazipur Agricultural University, Gazipur-1706, Bangladesh and has awarded PhD degree in Agricultural Biology, Kyungpook National University, Korea. The Principal Investigator has over 14 years of experience in teaching and research in home and abroad. In the mean-time, he has successfully completed 12 externally-funded research projects and supervised 22 MS students. Currently 10 MS students are conducting research under his supervision.
Dr. Shamim Hossain has a good experience in taxonomic work for collection, preservation, identification, description, illustration of insects as well as publication in scientific journals. He has already worked with 2500 specimens of insects in his PhD study in Korea. He has described 03 new genera, 01 sub-genus, 29 species new to science and another 24 insect species as newly recorded fauna for Korea. A total of 171 treated species has been described and illustrated with data for distribution, locality as well as known and observed host plants. He has already published 76 research articles (of them 12 are directly relevant to taxonomic identification), 02 books, 60 times attended for oral and poster presentation in different National and International Conferences in home and abroad. He has good experience in molecular identification of insect species using cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) gene. He has published more than 40 articles related to ecological insect pest management like development of IPM packages, bio-rational management approaches, biological control and use of bio-pesticides against insect pests attacking vegetables, oil-seeds and rice.
