DIWM welcomes the Director General of Water Resources Planning Organization

30 April 2026 – The department of IWM organised in its premise a consultation meeting with the Director General of Water Resources Planning Organization. Senior faculty members were present at the meeting where the undergraduate student learned about the works of WARPO.

 

 

 


School-based rainwater harvesting for safe drinking water supply in the rural coastal region of Bangladesh

The Department of IMW, GAU is actively engaged in promoting safe and equitable access to drinking water in the coastal region of Bangladesh. Prof. Dr. Moinul Hosain Oliver from DIWM has collaborated with the Australian High Commission of Bangladesh to install school based rainwater harvesting programs in the remote Khulna region of Bangladesh as a pilot project giving women and children, in particular, access to safe drinking water at times when salinity is high in both surface and groundwater.

DIWM has also collaborated and engaged in dialogue with the local NGOs, civil society members, politicians and general public of the coast in campaigning for safe water supply. Awareness programs has also been launched with kind cooperation from AusAID through the High Commission of Australia (AHC) in Dhaka.

This cooperation between AHC and DIWM has been able to establish a sustainable business model in the coastal area here school based rainwater harvesting program is making a positive impact by helping the local community reduce the number of drop-outs from school.
