Professor Dr. Shaikh Shamim Hasan is an internationally recognized scholar, higher education leader, and capacity development specialist with nearly two decades of experience in university teaching, research, academic leadership, and institutional development. He is a Professor in the Department of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development at Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU), Bangladesh, and formerly served as a Visiting Professor at the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research (IGSNRR), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Beijing, China, where he also earned his PhD.
Professor Hasan is widely recognized for his leadership in Outcome-Based Education (OBE), curriculum innovation, academic quality assurance, accreditation, faculty development, and educational leadership. As an Academic Auditor of the Bangladesh Accreditation Council (BAC), he has played a pivotal role in strengthening quality assurance systems and advancing excellence in higher education across Bangladesh. His expertise has been sought by the University Grants Commission (UGC), the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Agriculture, NAEM, NATA, and other national institutions to design and deliver high-impact professional development programs for university faculty members, researchers, scientists, and public officials.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions to academic capacity building, Professor Hasan was recently selected as a National Trainer for the Professional Development Programme for Senior Faculty Members of Bangladeshi Universities, a prestigious national initiative dedicated to enhancing academic leadership, teaching excellence, and institutional quality in higher education.
His research spans agricultural extension, rural development, climate change adaptation, sustainable agriculture, forest ecosystem services, human well-being, and higher education. As Principal Investigator, he has successfully led more than 15 nationally and internationally funded research projects supported by organizations including the University Grants Commission, the World Bank, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Ministry of Science and Technology. His scholarly contributions include over 50 peer-reviewed journal articles, three books, two book chapters, and supervision of more than 60 postgraduate researchers. His work has received widespread academic recognition, with more than 2,700 Google Scholar citations, an h-index of 23, and an i10-index of 31.
Beyond research and teaching, Professor Hasan actively contributes to the global academic community as a Guest Editor for leading international journals published by Elsevier and MDPI and regularly provides academic leadership in curriculum reform, accreditation, and institutional quality enhancement. Through his interdisciplinary research, evidence-based policy engagement, and commitment to faculty excellence, he continues to advance sustainable agricultural development and transformative higher education in Bangladesh and internationally.
