Professional Experiences
Prof. Dr. Md. A. Mannan has over 28 years of extensive professional experience in teaching, research, project leadership, and academic administration in the field of agronomy.
He began his academic career as a Lecturer in the Department of Agronomy at Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) in 1997. Through dedication and academic excellence, he was promoted to Assistant Professor (2006) and later to Associate Professor (2009) at the same institution. During his tenure at PSTU, he played a significant role in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses, supervising research, and contributing to institutional development.
In 2012, Dr. Mannan joined Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) as an Associate Professor and was promoted to Professor in 2016, a position he currently holds. At GAU, he has been actively involved in teaching at BS, MS, and Ph.D. levels, mentoring graduate students, and leading advanced research programs in agronomy and climate change-related agriculture.
In addition to his academic roles, Dr. Mannan has served in several important administrative positions, including:
– Head, Department of Agronomy, GAU
– Head, Department of Environmental Science, GAU
– Head, Department of Fisheries Management, GAU
– Director, Central Laboratory, GAU
– Provost of residential halls at both GAU and PSTU
Dr. Mannan also gained early professional experience as a Scientific Officer at the Hilly Cotton Research Centre, Bandarban, where he worked for one year.
He has extensive experience in research project leadership, having served as Principal Investigator (PI), Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI), and collaborator in numerous national and international projects funded by organizations such as USDA, KGF, UGC, and various government ministries. His work spans key areas including salinity, drought, and waterlogging stress management in crops.
Beyond academia, he has contributed as a consultant for organizations such as SGS Bangladesh Limited and Grameen Euglena. He has also served as a research project evaluator, Ph.D. thesis examiner, and scientific reviewer for multiple institutions and international journals.
Dr. Mannan is actively engaged in capacity building and training, having worked as both a trainer and trainee in agricultural development programs. He has also participated in international conferences and served on scientific committees.
