Welcome to the Department of Horticulture at Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU). As one of the oldest and largest departments within the Faculty of Agriculture, established in 1983, the Department has consistently demonstrated leadership in horticultural education, research, and innovation.
The Department offers comprehensive academic programs at undergraduate (BS), postgraduate (MS), and doctoral (PhD) levels, equipping students with strong theoretical knowledge and practical expertise. With a well-structured curriculum—comprising eight undergraduate and sixteen specialized postgraduate courses—students receive hands-on, laboratory-oriented training that prepares them for advanced research and professional excellence.
As a leading degree-awarding department in horticulture (MS-317; PhD-58), we have made significant contributions to national agricultural development. The Department has successfully developed and released numerous improved varieties of fruits, vegetables, spices and ornamental crops, alongside innovations in grafting techniques and postharvest processing technologies. These advancements play a vital role in ensuring safe food production, extending shelf life, improving storage systems, and supporting crop improvement aligned with national SDGs priorities.
Research remains a cornerstone of the Department. We are actively engaged in cutting-edge studies addressing key challenges such as climate change, food security, and sustainable crop production. The Department is equipped with a well-established two undergraduate and seven advanced postgraduate laboratories, including Analytical and Tissue Culture Laboratories, along with extensive three experimental fields and one nursery that enable high-quality research and innovation.
