Gazipur Agricultural University
Gazipur Agricultural University (Former BSMRAU), located in Gazipur, the origin of the picturesque Chilai River, spans 187 acres and was established in 1979 as a public university with an act (Act no. 16) promulgated by the Government of Bangladesh. Initially starting as a College of Agricultural Science, it later transformed into the Institute of Postgraduate Studies in Agriculture (IPSA) and became a full-fledged university in 1998. In accordance with the government notification dated February 12, 2025, it officially became Gazipur Agricultural University. It is the 13th public university in Bangladesh and the 2nd agricultural university in the country.
Gazipur Agricultural University currently has 7 faculties, 45 departments, 3 institutes, and 6 residential halls including 3 for male and 3 for female student halls. The university authorities remain attentive and responsible toward students’ legitimate needs and concerns.
Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) has achieved top-tier status in Bangladesh, ranking first among agricultural universities and leading in national sustainability, research quality, and innovation in the 2026 Times Higher Education (THE) and QS World University Rankings. The university is a hub for research, with over 44 developed crop varieties and high international rankings for sustainability, zero hunger, and academic impact. We have ranked 1st among all public/private universities in Bangladesh in the THE World University Rankings 2026, and 1st among agricultural universities in the THE Asia University Rankings 2025. We have secured 461st position globally in the THE World University Rankings 2026, and placed in the top 401–475 for Agriculture & Forestry in the QS World University Rankings 2026. We have also ranked 1st among agricultural universities in the QS Sustainability Rankings 2026 and recognized for high impact in the THE Impact Rankings 2025 (specifically in Zero Hunger and Quality Education). GAU has recognized as a “Centre of Excellence” in agricultural education, being the first in Bangladesh to implement the North American Course-Credit System. The university’s rapid rise is attributed to strong research output in Life Sciences and a strategic focus on climate-resilient agriculture.
The Registrar Office of Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) is responsible for all administrative and operational functions of the university. The Registrar Office manages key academic, administrative, and personnel functions, including admission, registration and enrollment of new students, providing graduation and postgraduation certificate, verification of degrees, keeping academic records of the current and former students, facilitate student scholarship, overseeing research and outreach activities, and handling recruitment, upgradation, leave, pension and service records of staff and faculty. We manages students, faculty, and staff academic and administrative matters and interpret and enforce policies and regulations of the University. We also coordinates with ministries and the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC), manages university projects, legal matters, and institutional facilities. Additionally, the office organizes national events, student programs, inter-university activities, and ensures overall administrative support and smooth functioning of the university.
