Professor Dr. Md. Ahiduzzaman
Professor of Farm Machinery and Precision Engineering | Specialist in Postharvest Technology & Renewable Energy
With over 24 years of distinguished experience in academia and research, Dr. Md. Ahiduzzaman specializes in bridging the gap between mechanical engineering principles and sustainable agricultural systems. Currently serving as a Professor at Gazipur Agricultural University, he is a recognized expert in postharvest process engineering, renewable energy development, and the creation of frameworks for greenhouse gas mitigation.
Known for an interdisciplinary and research-driven approach, Dr. Ahiduzzaman has helped national and international organizations—including the World Bank, GIZ, and the University of Alberta—navigate complex challenges in food security and energy efficiency. His work has led to the development of innovative low-temperature paddy drying systems and advanced biomass conversion technologies that directly benefit both industry and farming communities. Notably, he conducted integrated energy-systems modelling during an NSERC postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Alberta.
Throughout his career, Dr. Ahiduzzaman has remained committed to operational excellence and climate-smart agriculture. He believes that the most successful agricultural advancements are built on a foundation of rigorous scientific inquiry and the practical application of precision technology. With more than 70 scientific publications and several books to his credit, he continues to mentor the next generation of engineers, having supervised over 30 M.S. and Ph.D. researchers.
His research focuses on practical solutions for postharvest handling and sustainable energy in agriculture. Major themes include grain drying and storage, improvement of rice processing and parboiling systems, biomass conversion and torrefaction, techno-economic assessment of energy options, and lifecycle/GHG mitigation frameworks for agricultural and other economic sectors. He has led multi-institutional projects funded by national and international agencies (including KGF/GIFS, PAMI, GIZ, World Bank) and published extensively in peer-reviewed journals.
Presently researching and teaching in the field of agricultural engineering, focus on Postharvest Process Engineering, Grain Drying and Storage Research, Renewable Energy Development and Utilization, and Framework Development for Greenhouse Gas Mitigation Policies in Agriculture and Other Economic Sectors. He has experience working in multi-organizational and interdisciplinary teams, evaluating research, and developing projects in the agricultural engineering sector.
Dr. Ahiduzzaman brings strong experience in project management, stakeholder engagement and capacity building—translating research into practical recommendations for industry, government and farming communities. He holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering in 2011 from Islamic University of Technology, Bangladesh, an M.Sc. in Energy Systems & Management in 2006 from University of Flensburg (Europa-Universität Flensburg), Germany, (DAAD scholar), and completed postdoctoral research at the University of Alberta (NSERC).
