Dr. Mohammad Shafiqul Alam is an Associate Professor in the Department of Genetics and Fish Breeding, Faculty of Fisheries, Gazipur Agricultural University, Bangladesh. He has over two decades of experience in teaching, research, and academic development in fisheries genetics, molecular biology, and aquaculture biotechnology. He is also serving as Associate Director (International Affairs) at Gazipur Agricultural University.
He earned his B.Sc. in Fisheries and M.S. in Fisheries Biology and Genetics from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh, and completed his Ph.D. from Hiroshima University, Japan (2005–2009). He later served there as a Foreign Visiting Researcher and Postdoctoral Researcher (2009–2013), gaining international research experience in molecular phylogenetics and evolutionary biology.
Dr. Alam has successfully supervised 23 M.S. students and served on the supervisory committees of around 25 postgraduate students. His academic career includes service as an Assistant Professor at Jamalpur Science and Technology University (formerly Sheikh Fazilatunnessa Mujib Fisheries College) and as a Research Fellow at Bangladesh Agricultural University. He has received several prestigious awards and scholarships, including the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship.
Beyond academia, he values family life and social responsibility. He is married to Tasmina Pervin and is blessed with two daughters, Heba Alam and Manha Alam. He was born in Narsingdi and spent his formative and university years in Mymensingh, where his father was employed. He currently resides in Gazipur, Bangladesh, in connection with his professional responsibilities. His long-term vision is to contribute to the development of sustainable, technology-driven aquaculture systems in Bangladesh and globally.
