GAU Celebrates 55th Victory Day

Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) celebrated the 55th Great Victory Day 2025 in a dignified and festive atmosphere, honoring the glorious legacy of the Liberation War and paying deep respect to the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives for Bangladesh’s independence. The day-long program began at 7:00 am with the hoisting of the national flag and a disciplined march-past at the university’s 36 July Square. Teachers, students, officers and staff participated enthusiastically, creating a campus-wide atmosphere of patriotism and pride. At 9:15 am, a colorful Victory Day rally was led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. GKM Mustafizur Rahman. After the rally, the Vice-Chancellor placed a wreath at the Central Shaheed Minar in remembrance of the martyrs of the Liberation War. Floral tributes were also paid by the Teachers’ Association, university schools, residential halls and representatives of officers, employees and workers. From 9:30 am, a drawing competition was organized for the children of university teachers, officers and staff, where young participants expressed the spirit of liberation and victory through vibrant artwork. At the same time, friendly sports competitions were held for students, teachers, officers, staff and workers at the field beside Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Hall. Following the games, a brief discussion session on the significance of Victory Day was held. The Vice-Chancellor attended as Chief Guest, with Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M. Moynul Haque and Treasurer Professor Dr. Md. Safiul Islam Afrad as Special Guests. Senior university officials, faculty members, students and staff were also present. In his speech, the Vice-Chancellor described “Victory Day as the highest symbol of national pride, emphasizing that independence earned through immense sacrifice brought not only a sovereign land but also identity, dignity and confidence. In this sense, the great Victory of 16 December and the Victory of 5 August following the mass uprising of ’24 are bound by the same thread, as both were achieved through a shared spirit of resistance against discrimination.” VC underscored the importance of translating the spirit of victory into honesty, responsibility and dedication to nation-building, reaffirming GAU’s commitment to nurturing scientific-minded, humane and patriotic citizens. The day concluded with prize distribution among competition winners and a special prayer at the central mosque after Zuhr, seeking eternal peace for the souls of the martyrs.
