GAU Hosts International Conference on Regenerative Agriculture

Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) inaugurated its first-ever international conference titled “Regenerative Agriculture for Sustainable Food Security” on Friday, 12 December, transforming the campus into a vibrant hub of global scientific exchange and innovation. The two-day event aims to unite worldwide research, experience and emerging innovations to strengthen the future of sustainable food systems. The opening ceremony, held at the Begum Sufia Kamal Auditorium, was presided over by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. GKM Mustafizur Rahman. Emeritus Professor Dr. Anisuzzaman Chowdhury, Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor, attended as Chief Guest, while Dr. Stefan Mann, Head of Agroscope, Switzerland, joined as Special Guest. More than 1,200 registered participants including university VCs, faculty, students, foreign scientists and delegates from Pakistan, Ethiopia, Switzerland, Nigeria and multiple Bangladeshi institutions gathered to create a dynamic global knowledge forum. Following the national anthem, Prof. Dr. Md. Safiul Islam Afrad, Treasurer and Convenor of the Organizing Committee, delivered the welcome address. The conference’s abstract book, showcasing diverse research ideas and innovations, was formally unveiled. Keynote speaker Prof. Dr. Wajid Nasim jatoi from Pakistan highlighted the global relevance of regenerative agriculture, emphasizing soil restoration and collaborative strategies for future food security. In their remarks, the Chief and Special Guests underscored the urgency of international cooperation, data sharing, and joint action to build resilient food systems. Concluding the inaugural session, the Vice-Chancellor stated, “Saving our soil, revitalizing agriculture, and ensuring safe food for future generations is our shared responsibility. This conference is not merely an academic event; it is a bridge of global collaboration and collective human purpose.” Prof. Jatoi then presented a traditional honor shawl on behalf of Pakistan. The day continued with sessions on industry–university partnerships, product showcases, and 10 thematic technical tracks featuring cutting-edge research on sustainable production, climate resilience, regenerative farming, and digital agriculture. The conference will resume on Day Two with another set of thematic presentations, poster and wall-flash sessions, rapporteurs’ summaries, and award announcements for outstanding contributions.
