LoA Signing between GAU and UNDP.

A Letter of Agreement (LoA) has been signed between Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to develop suitable methodologies for extracting valuable products from fish waste, with the aim of expanding this process in the future. The agreement was finalized on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at 2 PM in the Academic Council meeting room of the university. This agreement signed between GAU and UNDP is financed through the “Local Government Industry in Climate Change (LoGIC)” project implemented by UNDP. The signing ceremony focused on sustainable, innovative and community-based development. The event was attended by the Vice-Chancellor of GAU, Professor Dr. GKM Mustafizur Rahman as the chief guest. Special guests included the university’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. M. Moynul Haque, Treasurer, Professor Dr. Md. Safiul Islam Afrad and Assistant Resident Representative of UNDP, Bangladesh, Sardar Asaduzzaman. The event was also graced by the Project Coordinator of LoGIC, A.K.M. Azad Rahman and UNDP’s Operations Manager Md. Enamul Haque along with various deans, directors, department heads of the Faculty of Fisheries and the Registrar from GAU. The event began with the screening of a documentary about the university’s achievements and innovations presented by the Director (Research) Professor Dr. Md. Moshiul Islam. Following this, Professor Dr. S.M Rafiquzzaman, the Principal Investigator (PI) of the project gave an insightful presentation on the potential of fish waste. He demonstrated how fish waste can be recycled to create valuable products (Waste to Wealth) such as collagen, gelatin and fish silage contributing to environmental pollution control and boosting the economy. Sardar Asaduzzaman emphasized that UNDP’s efforts to ensure sustainable development are evident in the ongoing research at GAU which he referred to as the “DNA of sustainable development.” He further expressed UNDP’s commitment to expanding collaborations with GAU in the future strengthening the mutual relationship through various projects. In his remarks, GAU’s Vice-Chancellor expressed his gratitude to UNDP stating that the signing of this agreement marks the beginning of a transformative chapter. He highlighted the proactive efforts of the Faculty of Fisheries in enhancing the country’s fishery sector. The Vice-Chancellor added that this partnership with UNDP will not only sharpen the research capacity of GAU but also contribute significantly to the nation’s economy by increasing fish production and diversifying its uses. The event concluded with the closing remarks of Professor Dr. Md. Amzad Hossain, Director (International Affairs) who served as the President of the agreement signing ceremony.
