GAU Ranked First in QS Sustainability Rankings 2026

The United Kingdom–based global education and research authority, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), has released its World University Rankings: Sustainability 2026, where Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) has secured first place among agricultural universities in Bangladesh, third among public universities and fifth nationwide across both public and private institutions. The ranking was officially published on the QS website on 18 November 2025. This remarkable achievement stands as a testament to the dynamic leadership, visionary thinking, humane perspective, and innovative planning of internationally renowned soil and environmental scientist and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. GKM Mustafizur Rahman. Under his leadership, the university has experienced a series of notable accomplishments within just one year now elevated to a new historic milestone through this ranking. This year, 22 Bangladeshi universities earned positions among 1,994 institutions worldwide. Nationally, GAU stands immediately after the University of Dhaka and the University of Rajshahi. The university also maintained impressive placements in previous QS rankings. Expressing his satisfaction, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Rahman stated, “This historic achievement in the QS Sustainability Rankings 2026 is not just a number, it is the collective result of the hard work, integrity, dedication and dreams of every member of the GAU family. Yet, we will not pause here. With strategic and forward-looking initiatives, our next goal is to secure a position within the global top 100–200 in major international rankings, including QS and to become the number-one university in Bangladesh.” He added: “Reaching this prestigious position among nearly two thousand global universities is a defining moment for GAU. As an agriculture-driven nation, Bangladesh’s future depends on research, innovation, environmental protection and sustainable development. Gazipur Agricultural University is now more committed than ever to illuminating that future. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to every member of our university family.” Notably, GAU ranked first nationally across public and private institutions in several categories of the Times Higher Education (THE) Rankings 2025 and 2026, and secured the 77th position globally, the highest in Bangladesh in the Development & Application category of the WURI Ranking 2025.
