20 GAU Students Awarded Japan NEF Scholarship

Twenty meritorious students from various departments under the Faculty of Environment and Natural Sciences at Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) have recently been selected for the prestigious Nagao Natural Environment Foundation (NEF) Scholarship, an international award funded by the Japan-based organization. To mark the occasion, a formal check distribution ceremony was held today at 3 PM in the Academic Council Room of the university. Vice-Chancellor of GAU, Professor Dr. GKM Mustafizur Rahman, officiated the event and distributed the scholarship cheques to the recipients. The Nagao NEF Scholarship is awarded to students committed to studying and conducting research in areas such as environmental conservation, biodiversity protection, sustainable agriculture and forest management all while remaining in their home countries. This recognition reflects a strong commitment to local action with global impact. Through receiving this international award, GAU students have taken a significant step forward in becoming future leaders in global environmental research and conservation. A total of 20 undergraduate students across different academic levels have been selected for this scholarship. Each awardee will receive an annual stipend of BDT 37,000 for a period of three years. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. GKM Mustafizur Rahman, attended the event as the Chief Guest. The Treasurer of the University, Professor Dr. Md. Safiul Islam Afrad, was present as the Special Guest. Also in attendance were Deans from various faculties, the University Proctor Professor Dr. Mohammad Saiful Alam, senior faculty members and the scholarship recipients. The program was chaired by Professor Dr. Md. Amzad Hossain, Coordinator of the NEF Bangladesh Committee and Director of International Affairs at GAU. In his congratulatory remarks, the Vice-Chancellor said, “This achievement by our students brings immense pride to Gazipur Agricultural University. It demonstrates that we are not only excelling in theoretical knowledge but also taking a leading role in practical, research-based contributions to environmental conservation.” He further urged students to become more actively involved in safeguarding the environment for a sustainable future. The Nagao Natural Environment Foundation (NEF) is a non-governmental organization based in Japan. Since its inception, NEF has supported numerous initiatives including international seminars on environmental issues and has provided significant assistance to developing countries like Bangladesh in various environmental conservation efforts.
